Practise a language by talking to real people
Apps teach you words. Conversations teach you to use them. Random chat gives you a stranger on the other side who has no script, which is exactly the practice many learners are missing.
How to set it up
- Open omagle.world and choose Text chat first if you are nervous. It gives you time to think and look words up.
- Add the language or topic as an interest, for example "english", "spanish" or "hindi".
- Set the region to Other countries to meet native speakers abroad, or Same country to practise with people nearby.
- Move to Video chat when you want to practise listening and pronunciation. A face mask is fine if you would rather not show your face.
Conversation starters that work
- "I am learning English. Can I practise with you for five minutes?"
- "What is a word in your language that has no good translation?"
- "What is the food everyone in your city loves?"
Tips
- Be upfront that you are practising. Most people are happy to help.
- Press Esc to skip if the match is not working. Not every chat will be good, and that is normal.
- Keep a note of new words after each chat.
- Never share private details, even when the conversation is friendly. See our safety tips.
